I have an LG Gram. I set up a 16 gig module together with the already soldered 8gb ram. My computer is working just fine. This is a typical mistaken belief that it shouldn’t be done. The only thing that will occur is your laptop computer will utilize 8gb from the existing 16 gb of the 2nd module and use it in dual channel mode in tandem with the currently existing ram. The remainder of the ram will run in single channel mode.

The telltale sign that tells you when Amazon has a much better cost.

This tool searches for lower prices at other shops while you go shopping on Amazon and informs you where to purchase.

You can, and it might work, however there are numerous caveats and things to be thought about. If your motherboard recognizes the additional RAM, it may “work”. Keep in mind that your system defaults to the slowest ranked RAM stick you set up in your computer system. You can not mix DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, etc. Preferably you want all of your RAM to be of the very same speed, timing and from the exact same producer. From the very same lot or batch number, if possible, would be much better. Vital is an excellent reference option, FYI. – – – Dan

I concur with Darrell and Georges answers … in a nutshell: It is more potential discomfort then we suggest you signing up for. If you have:

    • TWO SLOTS: Each set of DIMMS ought to be the exact same make and size DIMM! Do not mix!
    • 4 SLOTS: If you have two 4GB DIMMS in the first set of slots and the second set of slots is unused, then your might have the ability to add two 8GB DIMMS of the same (or close to the same) timing to the laptop computer and have it be steady.

See Is it bad to mix various sized sticks of RAM? and What Are The Guidelines On Blending Two Different Kinds Of RAM? for further comments by other individuals.

Also count the time cost of all the playing around. If you spend more time then you save in money, think about simply changing the memory with a complete set of memory that has been checked to work well together. Side note – many memory slots are just rated for five or two insertions – you do not wish to try every memory stick you can acquire “simply in case”, as you might wind up with sockets that are flaky anyway.

You can however you need to consider this:

Do you have 2 RAM slots

8 gb and 16 gb the 8 gb may slow the 16 gb down to 8 gb.

Are they the very same maker if not I would not

Are they a household of the same production innovation

the above so they can interact with one an other efficiently other

Why not just choose another 16 gb they are less than 20.00 Canadian $

    not worth the sorrow

Even if they’re both ddr3 or ddr4( well they should be). Id recommend against putting larger and smaller ram sticks. Might trigger instability.

Yes, you can, if your laptop meets the RAM requirements specified by the company. The only edge will be the speed of the laptop will increase promptly.

    Hope it helps!

Typically, you can not install unlike sets of RAM. Laptop computers tend to be much more rigid in this regard. Where the greatest incompatibility concern will be is the speed and timing requirements of the RAM. Nevertheless, it is highly likely that the laptop computer BIOS will have issues with the size also.

Just if the laptop computer producer supports it. Some require matched RAM sets. In any case, make certain the specifications on both of the RAM chips are identical. RAS/CAS/Latency/ Speed … Worst case scenario … it doen’t work, and you get the 8GB and install the 16 GB.

yes you can utilize different capacities of RAM modules together in a laptop computer just like a desktop. Matched sets of RAM do run better and have less issues though.

I take it that you have 1 x 8 gb chip of ram and 1 x 16 gb chip of ram? If this right then i say primarily no since i csn just go off experience and my experience says ram in nearly all motherboards is put in pairs so a mother board with 4 slots could take 4x4gb chips or 4x 8gb chips and even 2x 4gb with 2 x 8gb in the other bank of slots but configuration i presumed you were talking can not go in as a set thus no.
