What are the health effects, if any, of ceasing to …

  • What are the health effects, if any, of ceasing to masturbate?

If you are female, no health effects – congrats!

If you are male, there may be a few “annoyances” at worst when abstaining from masturbation which IMO do not outweigh the benefits. Also, I am going to infer from the question that you mean “no sexual activity” which includes having sexual intercourse in addition to masturbation.

Ok, so first what are those annoyances? Well there are two:

    1. Sperm Overflow
    2. Heightened Testosterone

    Sperm Overflow

When ceasing sexual activity, you will usually notice a sperm overflow at day 6–9. Usually, this happens when you urinate or defecate (your urine will be cloudy and more viscous than usual) and sometimes it happens at night (called nocturnal emissions). Notice, there is no orgasm associated with a sperm overflow, it’s just a way for your body to get rid of the excess sperm that is built up in your testes. The human male reproductive system is an endless sperm factory, making trillions of sperm cells in your lifetime and well into old age. You might be asking ‘why doesn’t the body just cease or reduce sperm production when the testes are full?’ Well, think about it this way – would you want to impregnate your wife with old sperm? How effective would 10 or 20 year old sperm be? The answer – not very effective. You need fresh sperm which is why even if you stop sexual activity, sperm production does not stop or reduce. Your testes, however, have a limited capacity so when they are full – sperm must exit one way or another, that’s when an overflow is inevitable. No, the sperm do not die inside your body and are then reabsorbed by the immune system – that may happen when you have a vasectomy but not with a functioning reproductive system.

    Heightened Testosterone

Based on some research I have done online, serum (blood testosterone) shoots up 3x the normal production around day 6 of abstaining from sexual activity. What does this mean? Well, for starters testosterone is a hormone that makes people horny so you will be 3x hornier than usual. This spike in testosterone coincides with the sperm overflow we discussed above as your body is trying to get you to mate when you have the peak available sperm count.

The testosterone production then drops back but not quiet to normal (baseline) levels. So being horny, is something you will constantly have to battle. Secondly, high testosterone also contributes to increased irritability and aggressiveness. Again, something you will need to keep under control when you are around people.

High testosterone generally has many great health effects for men (minus the horniness and aggressiveness) as depicted in the graphic above. If you have low energy or are not motivated to do anything, it might be an indicator of low testosterone.

    Positive Health Effects

Now to the health benefits. According to a NOFAP challenge taken by men in their 20s and 30s, the following health benefits were reported after 30 days:

    • Clarity of Mind (better able to listen, speak, write etc.)
    • Improved Productivity (easier to start and finish tasks)
    • Increased Focus (more present and less distracted)
    • More in control of sexual urges
    • Women are not seen as sex objects (for men)
    • Less social anxiety
    • Better recall ability
    • More perceived energy
    • Better quality sleep

Edit: Some of the other answers claiming you would get cancer if you cease masturbation -is utterly wrong. Think about it this way – why would Mother Nature design a reproductive system that if not used, would disintegrate and turn to cancer? That makes no sense.

    Stay frosty =)

on this topic you will get lots of wrong information because

#1 you get advice from addicts who cant stop and tell you how good their fix is

#2 people who have no clue on how to stop masturbating the correct way.

    so here it goes:

the body has two earthly functions: survive and procreate. logically all energy is directed towards those two goals. once you stop masturbating your body will receive a signal its not finding a mate. This will make your body switch from a protector mode into an agressor mode. You will get edgier, think more about sex, get angrier more quickly, more energy which will make you get more active and you will get leaner by moving more or even doing sports. Conversations and behaviour with women will be more focused towards achieving sex. Once you blow your load you switch back into protector mode. Now which one of those you prefer is up to you.

Here comes the tricky part. There are special yoga techniques which can activate your second chakra and release the pent up energy. This will give you tremendous energy and a slight switch of perspective in your consciousness allowing you to progress spiritually much faster. This is the only way to go months and years without actually needing sex or masturbation. everything else will be just a fight between your consciousness or ego and your physical body. which is really not healthy at all.

my advice before going into fighting yourself is learn a lot about those ancient yoga techniques.

    And here comes my experience:

once you can release the energy with those yoga techniques something extremely powerful happens. If you have ever heard of pussy power then this will be like penis power. In our society women secretly control everything. You can see this by powerful men getting involved with seemingly uninteresting women. (for example: bill clinton monika lewinski) in this stituation the woman is under full control because the man desires to have sex with her. when suddenly you are in control of your sexual energy this whole thing turns around. Your energy makes you more interesting (physically and mentally) and women will desire you. But this time around you have full control.

Some men do this naturally because of their genetic makeup i presume. But many fall into a deep abyss once they become older because they never learned how to actively manage it. Like Marlon Brando or Elvis when they got older for example.

On a sidenode, refraining from masturbation and porn virtually guarantees that you cannot feel depressed for a long period of time because your second chakra is responsible for joyful feelings.

I’m not really sure of any medical repercussions of not masturbating. It is known that regular masturbation reduces your risk of prostate cancer later in life. There is an urban myth that if you stop masturbating, your body absorbs your semen, which gives you a testosterone boost, but obviously that isn’t possible.

A few things may happen. Depending on a lot of variables such as age, weight, medication and medical conditions, etc:

    • Wet Dreams. Your body is designed to expel semen one way or another. If you aren’t masturbating (or having sex, which I assume the questioner means as well) your body will expel it whilst you sleep. You may even have an erotic dream which brings this on. Generally you’ll wake up and your pyjamas and sheets will be wet with cum.
    • “Blue Balls”. Whilst I haven’t seen anyone’s balls actually turn blue, they do become quite heavy and sore. It can be quite an unpleasant feeling and makes sitting and doing sports extremely debilitating at times. You also feel like you need to pee all the time.
    • Reduced Ejaculate. I’ve heard of guys having more frequent dry orgasms (no cum when masturbating to orgasm) after they’ve abstained for a lon period. The supposed reasoning is that the body gets used to not ejaculating as much so it reduces the amount it makes. I find this to be unlikely though.

But be prepared! Usually if you abstain for a long time, when you do finally masturbate or have sex (minus if you’ve been having wet dreams), you’ll have a big mess to clean up! I once went nearly two months without release and the next time I came, no joke, it hit the walls behind me!

Masturbation is a normal, healthy thing to do. I also think it’s good for younger guys to do as it allows you to explore your own body and it’s functions before you start doing it with another person. The stigma around it really needs to stop, especially for teenagers. I know, from my Catholic school experience, that we were scared to EVER touch ourselves! The devil was tempting us! I used to be filled with so much guilt afterwards and it shouldn’t be that way. It should be celebrated as a natural part of life (to be done in private though of course).

Remember, I’m not a doctor, so this is just from my experiences. =)

I am a person who had quit masturbation for 140 days on a single stretch. During the first twenty something days it was really very hard to carry on the streak. As the question indicates, the body will be itching for it and you would not be able to sit comfortably in your free time without thinking about doing it.

So, the first thing was to identify the time of the day during which I usually did it. It was the free time after the class in the evening, when my roommates were outside playing, I would sit down scrolling down the facebook and internet and the process will culminate after having it. So thought of some way to free myself from this free time .Hence to engage myself in some activities than sitting idle and watching this shit, I decided to join a gym. And around the same time I developed a passion for long distance running .I ran for around 30minutes at varying speed almost covering 3.5-4 km, five days a week. This made my daily routine tiresome and exhausting. I slept early in the night and woke up with the sun. I felt afresh and energized every single day.

After following this routine for initial 3-4 weeks, continuing without masturbation was just normal course of the day. I didn’t get frequent arousals and can say that literally I was in a world devoid of sexual/ masturbating thoughts. Contrary to what other answers point out, neither did I have many wet dreams during this period nor did I become a beast. I also stopped staring/stalking girls. It was like experiencing childhood days once again. I was full of energy, enthusiasm and confidence. This increased my concentration level too.

    Back to answering your question:

According to my experience quitting masturbation is not bad to the body physically. Truth is perhaps that it will revive you mentally and help you control your emotions. I am no expert to comment on the physiological changes to the body. Today almost half a year later after the streak was broken I am still as healthy as I was before. I didn’t have any problems pertaining to this reason.

My opinion is that it was the energy release by hitting at the gym and also running that helped me continue without masturbation for this long a period. So you need to find some method to release the energy from the body.

You certainly ascribe an awful lot of power to the innocent act of masturbation:

    • Poor eyesight.
    • Weak body.
    • Receding hairline.
    • Lack of self-confidence.

You’re accusing masturbation of things that have nothing whatsoever to do with this pleasurable act.

And actually, solo sex is providing you a positive benefit: sexual hygiene. If you have no sexual partner—and I suspect you don’t— then you really do need solo sex as a “relief valve.” If you didn’t have it, you might well be in trouble with the law for attempting to force yourself on others sexually.

So what you’re doing is actually beneficial, absent a partner. And even with a partner. A married friend with a perfectly good wife surprised me by saying “Sure, I masturbate. Any married man that says he doesn’t is lying.” (!)

Solo sex has always gotten a bum rap as being bad for your health and immoral. Some religious types would have you believe that the Bible declares masturbation a sin. That’s flat wrong.

The biblical story of Onan in Genesis 38:9 is mistakenly linked to to masturbation when in fact it’s case of Onan “pulling out” before his semen enters his brother’s wife and provides the brother offspring.

Nowhere, nowhere, in the Bible is it claimed that masturbation is sinful. Leviticus 15–16 treats it as mater off hygiene. You should, too.

Your list of supposed masturbation induced ailments reads like a bogus 19th century tract on the awful things that’ll befall a masturbator. The Catholic church terrorized many generations of boys with the notion that masturbation—even just the thought of masturbation—would damn them to eternal hell.

Really? Guess what those hypocritical partnerless priests were doing—when they weren’t taking molestive liberties behind the altar….

You need to look elsewhere to restore your health. Yes, see your doctor at once and share with him/her your feelings about your masturbation. Let’s bring some medical reality to bear, okay?

Photo: “I’ve got to lock onto that sweet image. Oh, yeah….”

    (Being anonymous for obvious reasons)

I studied out of home at a place very far from home. And used to live alone as a PG. And mind you this was year 1998 to 2001. So no means of entertainment like mobile phone, laptop, pc or even a tv. Yes, there was just me and study books around in my room. So naturally, there has to be something. Something to get refreshed. Sorry for using typical term but I see myself at that time, wanting such change only. Being addicted to masturbation since I was 12. I never thought of quitting it deliberately. Given my knowledge, read from reliable sources (mostly columns of sexologists in newspaper supplements), I knew its not bad for me. But for the sake of experiment, somewhere around 1999 I started to keep a track of my masturbation. Noting a ‘dot’ on the wall calendar whenever I did it. I observed I was doing it almost every next day. Though not like just a habit, that ‘I have to do it’. I take proper time, use my imagination, and get proper mood for it and do it. Not just like ‘I have to finish this’. I observed there are days that even had two dots.

Despite knowing its not bad for me, I thought of an experiment. Let’s see how long I can abstain from this short pleasure which takes good amount of my rather could-be-productive time. It was tough but however I survived the temptation. I resisted the urge just for the sake of making ‘record’ that I kept away for this long time.

The calendar shown 45 days. Yes, 45 days and I did not do it for a single time. Now, how did it feel. I read the answers above, and sorry to say, this made no drastic changes to my life. Neither it left me feel more energetic nor it did increase concentration levels. I was as normal as I earlier was. The only benefit I got was, I had more time to read things. Now I was busy in things other than sex. I started buying all the newspapers with huge Sunday supplements and read them thru the week. Ending up my knowledge enriched. That’s it. And yes, I started the thing back after a few days, and this time, it was less frequent. 4-5 times a month. Because now I know how to keep me busy.

I am married now, and not intentionally, but circumstances sometimes keeps me away from having sex. But now, it doesn’t matter. Neither doing it makes any difference, nor abstaining from it adds any value. Just another bodily activity it has become for me.

I have been masturbating since I was 14 and now I am 21 so I really quite addicted to it and ceasing masturbation was one of the toughest things I encountered in my life. I will give you an insight on me and later come to the question. I am from the sub-tropical terrain of India, 21 and was a regular at masturbation until 4months ago. So much so that since the last 2 years I had started masturbating twice/thrice daily!! I was addicted to pornography.

Then I started knowing about the side effects of excess masturbation like erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, low sperm count etc. I panicked and did not masturbate for 3 days. But soon my sexual instinct took over me and I was back infront of my laptop with my pants down, shagging to nude women on the screen. I then resolved that this must somehow be stopped.

I lessened my masturbation frequency to once daily to thrice a week to twice in 2 weeks and so on. Until 4 moths ago when I totally got over it and I dont masturbate anymore.

The health effects, mostly positive, can be divided into 2 types:

    Physical Effects:

    • The masturbation time can be awarded to exercise which helps you stay fit.
    • The penis isnt subject to different masturbation fantasies which helps it to sustain its original form.
    • Incase of women, there is a lesser chance of hymen getting broken incase it is intact.
    • The vagina could be prevented from infection which may happen due to use of dildos and other stimulating home appliances and vegetables.

    Mental Effects:

    • The most common effect is higher concentration. People tend to concentrate more in work or studies when they are off porn.
    • It also prevents teenagers from adhering to taboos. For instance since last 3 years I have been drawn to incest which sadly led to me peeping on my family’s females and fantasizing them.
    • You dont picture every pretty woman you meet as just a sexual object with a pair of boobs and a vagina. You develop more respect for the opposite sex.

There have been certain theories as to ceasing masturbation increases the risk of prostrate cancer in men but there have been no concluding proofs to that effect.

So this is my personal perspective and I welcome any comments, suggestions from the readers. If you have anymore question, feel free to put it in the comments or message me; I’ll be glad to help anyone.

    Thanks for reading!!

Fap withdrawal effects completely depends upon the nature of addiction to the specific person.

Masturbation is a technique where self stimulation of the genitals is involved resulting to a orgasm(sexual climax).

It is a very normal behaviour despite marriage or having a partner.

Normal number of times masturbation can be perfomed is : 1 time a day that counts 7 times a week.

But when the time span increases day by day means 1 time a day becomes 3 times a day counting 21(3×7) times a weeks that leads to a disease named chronic masturbation.

Now, chronic masturbation, alone is sufficient to kill your soul as well as marriage. Because you will get absolutely zero pleasure at your private times with your partner resulting a severe mental depression.

Plus your intercourse ejaculation time will gradually decrease over time.

So you become determined to quit this fucking habit.

    You finally quitted it.

There after the effects/ health effects, of ceasing to masturbate are as follows:

    • First 2-3 days it shall be extremely normal. No odd feelings.
    • After 4-5 days the person shall feel extreme body tiredness followed by an indomitable urge to masturbate.
    • More days and more irritable symptoms like:
      • Feeling the urge to masturbate in the exact specific times of activities he/ she used to masturbate.i.e. at the time of using washroom, sleeping time.
      • A strange eerie sensation followed by an extremely odd feel.
      • Headache
      • Nausea
      • Sleepiness
      • Nightfall
      • Looking at the opposite sex in an urge to have sex.
      • Terribly impatient.
      • Lack of focus on work.
      • Forgetfulness.

These are the most common symptoms included. But there are more.

    Now take a free advice.

If you can successfully overcome all the withdrawal effects and do not masturbate for almost 2 months you will experience:

    1. A free life where masturbation is not your master. It simply cannot control you anymore.
    2. A new life.
    3. You are free, like a bird.
    4. You can focus more on your career.
    5. No more losing time as you needed to watch porn while masturbating.
    6. A stunning health.
    7. Your dead looking eye shall show full of life.
    8. Your looks shall be better.
    9. Your memory power shall be increased more and more.

And many such advantages follows by if you quit masturbating.

But if you do not want to quit it atleast try to have a limit over it.

Don’t ejaculate twice in a week.

Happy masturbating. But only after going through this link, Here’s What Happens to Your Body When You Stop Masturbating

If you feel that quitting masturbation is seeming impossible for you then consulting a doctor is the best option followed by some medicines to heal your addiction.

    Anirban Chakraborty.

Masturbation only negatively affects you, in any way, shape, or form, if you do it so often, that other things suffer from it. Or if you “jerk yourself raw.”

So, if you miss meetings because you have to masturbate, or if you leave a date early to masturbate, if you find yourself planning your day around places to masturbate, or if you can’t sit still for 30 minutes without needing to masturbate, then … yes, totally, see a professional and cut back.

Else? Don’t. Masturbate as much as you’d like/want. Masturbate when you feel like it, and it’s safe to do so.

The benefits are there. Studies show, that people who masturbate often have a better sex life, a decreased risk of prostate cancer, and a more relaxed outlook on life. Your amygdala, nucleus accumbens, ventral tegmental area (VTA), cerebellum, and the pituitary gland get a decent wash of happy chemicals. We’ve only identified a few, so far, but among them is Anandamide, an endocannabinoid, which is responsible for better performance under stress, and less extreme reactions to it. There’s dopamine, which both moderates failure response and success memory, oxytocin, which assists in the complex functionality that manages empathy, bonding, and friendship, endorphin, which reduces pain (some of my patients with persistent, recurring, non-migranoid headaches swear by it as a means to relieve the pain), and GABA, which lowers anxiety impact onto the limbic system.

Not to mention, there’s serotonin, which boosts your confidence.

So, in short: masturbate as much as you can, but don’t overdo it to the point of injury or losing out socially or professionally.

When I was growing up, I didn’t masturbate for a long time, and was rather proud of myself for not doing it when all the kids around me, male and female, seemed to be doing it. It was uncomfortable, but I dealt with it. I think I was 13 or 14 when it happened. I was sleeping in my underwear, and had a dream of a pretty girl I liked very much and had a crush on. She was in her bikini bathing suit and looked incredible. She had the cutest little ass. I remember looking at it and watching her squeeze it together and how hard that made me. I dreamed of that squeezing ass and felt my penis get hard. I was breathing hard too. I woke up moaning, cumming, and humping all at once, feeling wonderful and feeling hot gooey stuff shooting out over and over. After it died down, I carefully unfolded myself and got up, and my brother and I looked at my hard penis, twitching, and sperm all over me. He was like, how does that feel? I said, that was great! That felt really good. it did, because I was still trembling and my knees were weak. I didn’t know I could hold in so much sperm. I was definitely in a better mood afterwards. I wasn’t as irritable and complaining. Things didn’t bother me so much. I didn’t do it again for a week and it happened again, just not as huge. I learned that it’s going to come out, so I masturbated.

Let’s look at the actual biology and not the speculation or nonsense:

The average adult male produces about 290 million sperm cells a day. For men older than 50 years, sperm production is about 130 million pserday. It takes sperm about 10 weeks to mature inside the male body. After the sperm has matured, they remain viable for 4-5 days. If they are not excreted in this period of time, they usually “die” and are reabsorbed.

So, let’s say you sign on to this new movement that suggests masturbating creates an encylopedia of psychological and physical problems. Let’s also assume you’re married, don’t masturbate, and want to impregnate your wife.

Researchers from the University of Texas designed an elegant experiment. They collected the “flow over” from a woman’s vagina after having sex with a man and analyzed the sperm. Contrary to what the “nofap” community would have you think, a woman’s chances of becoming pregnant was better if her guy had a tug two or three days before they had sex. Why? It seems masturbation cleared out dead, dying, or sperm that were incapable of fertilizing an ovum and the semen sample indicated she retained more healthy sperm.

If that study holds up, it blows up the theory that abstaining from masturbation is an absolute positive.

Our body is full of energy. One of the energy is sexual energy which is in largest amount. When you masturbate, it does not create any side effect and it boosts testosterone temporarily. It drains some of the body energy for some time and you feel weak for few minutes.when you dont masturbate, the following things will happen tp your body:

    1. You will start having nightfall.
    2. You will feel attracted towards opposite gender.
    3. Your concentration will start getting worse.
    4. Your sexual urge will start increasing.

According to science, energy can neither be created nor be destroyed. It can only be transferred from one form to another. So you can preserve it. Remember the time when you didn’t masturbate and still had good focus. After 6 months or around that time period of no fap your focus will start increasing drastically and you would have no nightfall.

You can convert this energy into strength or creativity.

    Pros of no fap:

    1. You will feel more alive.
    2. You will feel more energetic.
    3. You will start inmproving in sports.

If you have the question that how to do it then I would give you an example:

Wake up early at around 4 am and start exercising intensely. Work out hard until you get cramps. It is scientific fact that sperms are made up proteins. When you will not ejaculate these proteins will be reabsorbed by the body.

Don’t follow anyone blindly. Try by yourself. Do the 6 months challenge and thank me later. But one thing that you have to do anythin positive like working out or if you are interested in art then you can create some stuff.

Comment only if you complete the 6 months challenge. You can do pranayama for best results.

In my experience, I get irritable, hostile, sensitive, touchy, over-reacting, and a bit irrational. My balls feel full and uncomfortable because they are full, and need to be emptied. Then the erections come. Not just any old boners, but really hard, pulsating, painful erections, ones that say, “Hey, take care of this!! NOW!!”. Then I have a lovely wet dream, waking up at night with erect penis squirting, because it is not natural to hold in your body fluids indefinitely, and the body will take matters into its own hands, so to speak, if you for whatever reason refuse to do what is natural to do. Same goes for females, even though they usually don’t squirt stuff everywhere like us guys do. (girl wet dreams are awesome, by the way) I also used to masturbate 5 times a day or so, and up to 15 times once, as a teen, and still feel stupid about it. I hurt myself, and that was really no longer fun. The anti-masturbation people were right for once, I WAS wore out, tired, had “brain fog”, confused, lethargic, all that. But that’s when I did it 10–15 times in one 24 hour period, which really is stupid. Let that thing rest a bit. it doesn’t have to be a month, but a week would probably bring you back up to speed. It’s up to your body, so listen to your body. You don’t have to go to either extreme of doing is 5 times a day OR stop entirely.
