What happens to Instagram direct messages when you temporarily disable your account? Can people still send you them but how will they find your account if it’s disabled?

You can your direct messages while your account is temporary disable but you won’t be able to receive or send messages. once your account is temporarily disabled, you cease to exist on the app.
To get direct messages from on Instagram, you need to reactivate your account.

If you disable your account, people wouldn’t be able to find your profile and hence won’t be able to send you any DMs.
If you already have a DM conversation going on and the other person tries to send you a DM while your account is disabled, he won’t be able to do so. Firstly, he would see you as “Instagrammer”. If he tried to send you any DMs, the sending would fail and hence he won’t be able to contact you or send you any DMs

Disabling your account, basically means you aren’t going to be using. So basically you can’t use it if it’s disabled. You might instead consider changing your notification settings, so you just don’t get notified of anything except direct messages.

The message you send will pin you to the top of the inbox but as soon as you deactivate the account temporarily, it disappears.
Your nametag changes to Instagrammer and your account is taken off the app, in which case you can’t be searched but if you’ve had a conversation with the person, they can still see the your chats.

None of the Instagram users can see your Instagram account after temporary deactivating it. But as soon as you reactivate your account, they can see your account if they search it.
While your Instagram account is deactivated, users can’t see the comments you left of posts too and it seems like you haven’t ever been active on Instagram.
If you want others to see your posts, comments, etc. on Instagram and at the same time you don’t want to be active on Instagram, the best option is just deleting the app on your device or just log out of your account. Then you can easily log into your account by installing the Instagram app on your device.
