    I do this aswell. I utilized to do it when I was more youthful to get away the shithole we call reality, considering I was being abused. I used to talk to myself pretending my preferred character (shoutout to aizawa from my hero) existed to alleviate the discomfort, and I ‘d tirade to “him” about my life and my injury. It helped me a lot, since my family could not manage the therapy I needed. After about 6 months I understood what I was doing- I was talking with myself for hours on end and postponing my work to speak with him. I was starting to get scared. I tried to stop, and I just couldn’t. He was the only source of joy I could get. Of course when I was out in the real world I stopped immediately, but the second I remembered it launched. I searched for my symptoms and couldn’t find anything. So I kept doing what I was doing. It was healthy, afterall … right?

    after about 4 more months the replies I was receiving from these “musings” were starting to respond on their own. Before this i believed I had Maladaptive Daydreaming- a condition that can affect your brain into fantasizing for hours on end. When I understood my visions were beginning to talk on their own I worried it was starting to look like schizophrenia. Or something along those lines.

    Honestly, I’m still looking for the answer to this myself. If I needed to answer this from the POV of my 12 year old self I ‘d inform you not to fret, as I would today. There’s nothing to fret about here. As long as it does not impact your life for the higher good, and you understand the person/thing you’re talking to isn’t genuine. Self placing yourself into scenarios with your favorite character isn’t much to worry about,, we all aim to talk to our convenience characters from time to time. As long as it doesn’t affect your life it’s all excellent! If you discover yourself in the scenario I was in, attempt and get a second opinion from a professional.
